Spotlight Model: AJ Samonte

Meet Mr AJ Samonte

While working out at a gym in Brooklyn, New York AJ was approached by a model scout who suggested he give it a try. At first he was tentative, after all he had a decent 1st year paying job on Wall Street and couldn’t imagine telling anyone especially his parents that he wanted to quit to be a model. Fortunately, the risk paid off. AJ has been represented by some of the worlds top modeling agencies such as Wilhelmina, FORD, and Elite. He is currently represented by Caroline Gleason Management based in Miami Beach.

“Modeling has been great, I have met so many interesting people and have had a chance to travel a bit with a flexible schedule. The flexibility has given me time to pursue other passions such as health and fitness. In addition to modeling, I have been personal training for 8 years now and couldn’t be happier. The combination of these 2 occupations sure beats a 9 to 5 stuck behind a desk all day that’s for sure, but in addition it gives me the opportunity to wake up everyday and be passionate about helping people reach their fitness goals and make their life quality better. This is what I feel life is all about. The pursuit of happiness and helping others be happy as well - plain and simple” says AJ.

When did you fall in love with HIP HOP? Since RUN DMC, LL COOL J, to Kanye West and Lil Wayne I have always loved hip hop music. I love everything about it, the culture, style, expression, and obviously the music. 90% of my ipod is HIP HOP. It inspires me and keeps me motivated.

If you could work with anyone who would it be?Alessandra Ambrosio, do I really have to say WHY? LOL

What was your most accomplished moment and shining glory? This moment for me wasn’t a specific event, time period or accomplishment but it was the DEFINING MOMENT that I realized I better do whatever I really want to do in this life in order for me to be successful.

What advice would you give someone trying to pursue your career?I would advise young models to do their homework. The quality of the photographers, agents, stylist and artists make a big difference in the development of a good portfolio. Do you research, ask other more experienced models for their advice and what particular markets would work for them.

How would a friend describe you?A close friend would describe me as a chill, laid back, easy going guy….
