Even though we’re barely into spring, I can feel the heat of summer lurking right around the corner. From the abundance of women hitting the gym, to the empty self-tanning aisles at the drugstores, women everywhere are gearing up to show some skin. What better way to display those long hours of hard work and preparation than with a smokin’ swimsuit from one of the hottest collections to hit the steamy scene: Amaya Swimwear.
Lila Nikole Collection formerly A Swimwear was founded and created by Lila Nikole Rivera in late 2005. Based out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, this high-end swimsuit line is not for the average woman in search of a basic black one piece.
“The LNC woman is a very strong, fashion forward, sexy yet classy woman. The LNC woman is someone who loves to stand out in a crowd and demands attention,” states Rivera. With bold, body baring designs and bright, luscious colors, an LNC swimsuit definitely delivers the attention you want when basking on the beach or lounging by the pool. However, Rivera’s passion for fashion goes way back. “I have always been a bit of a fashionista. As a young child I would alter my clothing and make it my own. I guess fashion is just a huge part of my life and only made sense to pursue what I love to do as a career,” exclaims Rivera.
So it came as no surprise when the New York born Boricua moved to Florida in 1995 and enrolled in the Art Institute where she studied fashion design. “I studied a swimwear class and was enchanted by my ability to create these beautiful designs. The response from the public is what essentially pushed me into the creation of Lila Nikole Collection,” states Rivera.
Evidently, the culture of South Florida and its delicious sun soaked scene influenced Rivera in a positive way. Her designs are both fashionable enough to strut the streets of Ocean Drive, yet functional enough to take a dip in the temperate waters of the Atlantic.
Sought after for her sophisticated piece, Rivera is quickly becoming known for her signature piece: the monokini. “Monokinis seem to be a very fast growing style for swimwear. It allows someone who is not comfortable wearing a full piece suit the ability to have a peek-a-boo look while leaving everything to the imagination,” states Rivera. Also hot for this summer are bold colors and exotic embellishments such as beads, crystals, and jeweled trimming.
With a strong sense of design and plenty of inspiration (she counts Rosa Cha by Amir Slama and Roberto Cavalli as two of her favorite designers), Rivera has created a swimwear line that gives serious fashion seekers something to shout about. Even though the line is only two years old, LNC has definitely made a name for itself in the industry. Some of Rivera’s designs were recently seen barely covering the killer bodies of statuesque models on BET’s Rip the Runway. Her swimsuits have also graced the beautiful bodies of hot celebs, such as Ashanti, Christina Milian, Rosci, Xscape, Wendy, and Bre from “America’s Next Top Model.” “Our goal is to make Amaya Swimwear a household brand name in the swim wear industry. Within ten years, we will have a children's line as well as a men's line,” states Rivera.
With the world of fashion finally getting a dose of Latin flavor, Rivera is definitely a top style star to watch. “My advice to any person with a dream of a career in something they love is to believe in yourself. Don't let anyone stand in your way. Believe in your abilities and your capabilities to achieve. Be persistent and you will get what you want in life,” proclaims Rivera.
Thanks to Rivera and Lila Nikole Collection, beauty is back on the beach this summer!
