A Sweet Treat from the Cupcake Queens
Our story does not begin with the typical pastry chef from big named restaurant or baking since the age of three. Our story eminates from the Sex and the City tour in New York, we indulged on a cupcake and literally fell in love at first bite. We wanted to bring the love of cupcakes to our city so we rolled up our sleeves and got to work at creating the tastiest cupcake. It’s not nice to keep secrets, we unveiled our cupcakes to the world on February 14, 2008 through the wonderful world of myspace and after a sweet response from our fellow myspacers, we decided to introduce 2 Girls and A Cupcake!
Our delights have been the centerpieces of birthdays, fashion shows, and charity functions. We cater to the finest caterers, wedding planners and event coordinators as well as local celebrities, friends and cupcake lovers. Wondering how we came up with our tasty mix? It wasn’t a hand me down from grandma or a cookbook recipe, it was our trial and error baking sessions that ultimately yielded our flavorlicious concoction. We are two best friends just baking our way through the American dream.
Upon graduating high school we wanted to start a business together, a venture that would fit our personalities, express the Miami vibe, culture and at the same time was fun and colorful. We took a shot at Choreographing quinces, event planning, promoting and sales, eventually found our happy place...Cupcakes. The best part of making cupcakes, besides the leftover frosting, is the reaction from our clients. We enjoy getting to know our customers and building relationships with them.
If you could work with anyone, who would it be?
Eileen: Ellen Degeneres for President! An exceptionally funny entertainer with great charisma. Her passion is to make people laugh and she happens to be quite good at it! Her genuine down to earth charm is something everyone can relate to whether she is chatting with a celebrity or performing infront of an audience she knows how to make a person laugh and brighten the mood. Even though I have not had the honor of meeting her in person, I do enjoy baking with her while shes on my tv screen and hopefully we will be on her show and she will give us napkins and kitchen supplies with her face on it. lol
Evelyn: I would love to bake with Mr. Johnny Cupcakes. Johnny a young entepenuer like ourselves has created an enterprise all on his own. His creative concept and down to earth persona has touched the closests of everyone in America! I admire his confidence and belief in his product, they say you are only as good as the product you deliver, like his one of kind t-shirts Johnny is unique in everyway. We can bake and he could put it on a shirt, match made in cupcake heaven, I hope he’s reading this!
What was your most accomplished moment and shining glory?
Our most accomplished moment happen in June 2009, when we decided it was time to open our flagship store in the heart of Miami. Beyond our sweetest imagination we decided to take a gigantic step in our cupcake future and create something fun that would bring our friendship, families and community together. After weeks of reading books, web sites and store leasing options we signed our lease. The months of planning and preparation will soon pay off, the first ever cupcake store in downtown miami will be opening its oven in September 2009.
Name some of your inspirations.
Our inspiration to create our delicious cupcakes was none other than the city we live in, Miami. Our wonderful clients, fun experiences and role models also inspire us. Through colorful colors and amusing name we aim to celebrate the inner kid in every one. Our menu includes flavors such as Oye Como Va and Coconut Grove representing South
Florida and its invigorating “sabor”.
Please give your advice to someone who wants to pursue your career?
The best advice we can offer anyone is to truly love what you are doing. Dare yourself to be different and think outside the cupcake box. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, it’s the only way we learn and become the successful individuals we strive to be!
How would a close friend describe you?
Original, funky, goofy, unique, clowns, witty, balanced, inspiration, coloful, smart, clever, giddy, and we always smell like cupcakes!
